Pussycat Dolls Present: Producer to Direct Burlesque Musical
The sex appeal of beautiful women has long been a source of profit for various entrepreneurs, though few can lay claim to having it as a family business. The Antin clan has done just that, with their entertainment empire represented by such ventures as Jonathan Antin's reality series Blow Out, focusing on beauty and sexy haircuts. There's also famed choreographer Robin Antin, the brains behind the entire hip-swinging Pussycat Dolls franchise, who's well on her way to becoming a mogul in her own right. Starting out as a regularly performing musical girl group, it has since expanded into a nightclub lounge and their own competitive reality television show, Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll. A Canadian version of the series is also on its way.
One more sibling from the family has also been hard at work, namely Steve Antin. Branching out through different occupations in the entertainment industry, he has worked as an actor, writer, producer, and director. He has been involved with Robin's group as a producer for Pussycat Dolls Present, and also directed their video for the song "Sway." Steve has had a long history during the past decade of writing and directing for various burlesque shows over the past decade, not just for the Pussycat Dolls.
During an interview, Steve explained that with the continued popularity of burlesque shows over the years, it has evolved into a modern form which he calls "neo-burlesque." He describes neo-burlesque as a contemporary approach to the vaudeville traditions of singing, dancing and comedy, but with more teasing rather than actual striptease. Screen Gems Entertainment has given the green light to a film musical that he himself has written and will direct, titled Burlesque, straightforwardly enough. Around 12 musical numbers are planned for the production, which Screen Gems claims will be both provocative and artistic.
